Bob Bowes is an English actor. Most famous film is the classic 1969 film Kes.[1] Bob Bowes played the headmaster Mr Gryce in the film about a young Barnsley lad who trains a young kestrel.
Robert Bowes was in fact Headmaster of Ashton Road Secondary Modern School, Ashton Road, Castleford. The school has since been re-named to the Henry Moore middle school. Up to appearing in the film Kes he was a teacher by profession and was Headmaster still in the late 1960s. His portrayal in the film reflected the gritty reality of a Secondary Modern education, and his acting in the film Kes has been described as an accurate depiction of life in northern pit towns.
